Tour de Link, now in its third year, aims to connect everyone in the community and build a healthy community together through physical activity and sports. Tour de Link 2023, Link’s flagship community engagement event, concluded successfully on 27 August after almost a month of competition. This year, more than 14,000 riders participated in the event, 40% more from last year, who collectively rode a total distance of over 38,800km this year and set new records in both the number of riders and total mileage!
To add more excitement, Link created a new “Ace Team” category and hosted a charity elite challenge. The competition featured a showdown between “Team Gold” led by Hong Kong’s cycling legend Wong Kam-po, and the “Home Run” team which consisted of young athletes from InspiringHK Sports Foundation. The final riders of Team Gold were the top five public members who had enrolled in “Team Gold” and accumulated the most mileage during the selection period, comprising three children and two adults.
At the end of the elite challenge, “Team Gold” beat the “Home Run” team and took $5,000 worth of sports coupons. Meanwhile, Link contributed $10,000 to InspiringHK Sports Foundation, which supported “Home Run” team delivery of care packs to the underprivileged families.
The intense inter-district competition took this year’s event to new heights, with emerging districts breaking the winning streak of last year's champion district. Tseung Kwan O district and the Shau Kei Wan district accumulated the most mileage in the first and second rounds of the competition respectively. In honour of the two winning districts' participants, Link donates $100,000 worth of meal coupons to elderly and indigent residents in Tseung Kwan O and Shau Kei Wan through non-government organisations, bringing care for people in the community. The winners of each of the men’s, women’s, children’s and family categories will receive a folding bike.
