Link Asset Management Limited (Link), the manager of Link Real Estate Investment Trust (Link REIT, stock code: 823), today (Wednesday) announced the return of its flagship "Tour de Link 2024" community engagement event at six Link’s malls from 7 August to 1 September 2024 under a new theme of “Beyond Limits”, to promote health and fitness within the community while offering an opportunity for residents to compete for both their individual and district glory.
Link hosted the opening ceremony for “Tour de Link 2024” at TKO Spot today. Dr Lam Ching-choi, non-official member of Hong Kong’s Executive Council, Permanent Secretary for Housing and Director of Housing Rosanna Law and Hong Kong cycling legend and three-time Asian Games gold medallist Wong Kam-po, as well as former Hong Kong’s cycling team members Marco Kwok and Jamie Wong joined Link’s Chief Operating Officer Ex. Mainland China Greg Chubb to officially launch the event at the ceremony.
Greg Chubb said, “Tour de Link has been more than just a series of competitions, but a platform that harnesses the unifying power of sports to bring friends and families together, bridging gaps in age, distance, interests, and fostering a stronger sense of belonging, and camaraderie within our communities. We sincerely wish that this year’s Tour de Link will continue to enable more people to experience the benefits of sports, linking communities together, and building closer relationships.”
Dr Lam Ching-choi, non-official member of the Executive Council, said, “I hope more companies will follow Link’s example by employing more creative methods and activities to strengthen community engagement, thereby building a healthy, vibrant, and happy Hong Kong.”
Rosanna Law, Permanent Secretary for Housing and Director of Housing, said, "The Housing Bureau is committed to fostering the well-being of residents living in public housing. I am pleased that Link also echoes this value through their hosting of the Tour de Link for the last three years, with the aim of encouraging community members to cultivate healthy lifestyles. I look forward to further collaboration with Link in strengthening social bonds amongst our residents in the future."
As the first-of-its-kind indoor cycling rally in Hong Kong, the "Tour de Link" attracted more than 14,000 participants last year, a 40% increase compared to 2022, with more than 20,000 rides and 38,800 km cycled. Last year, $100,000 worth of meal coupons were also distributed through 12 NGOs to the elderly and residents in need living in the winning districts of Shau Kei Wan and Tseung Kwan O.
The "Tour de Link 2024" will be held in two rounds from 7 August to 1 September 2024 in six of Link’s malls across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. Each venue will be equipped with fitness bikes for all ages to enjoy fitness fun cycling at participants’ own pace. The first round will take place from 7 to 18 August at TKO Spot, T Town and Oi Tung Shopping Centre, and the second round will run from 21 August to 1 September at Lok Fu Place, Kai Tin Shopping Centre and Wo Che Plaza.
In addition to the regular Men’s, Women’s, Children’s, Family, and “Ace Team” categories, this year, the new “Mile Eater” award is set to recognise the individual rider who records the highest accumulated cycling mileage across the six venues in the two rounds of competition. Performances for each category and district will be displayed on TV leaderboards in the malls, and will be updated on the designated event page on Link’s "Tour de Link 2024" website on a real-time basis.
The collective distance cycled by all participants, regardless of category, in the same district will be generated as the overall district result. On behalf of the participants of the top-scoring district in each round, Link will donate meal coupons with a total value of $100,000 to the residents in need via NGOs in the winning districts.
Link's malls have always served as community gathering hubs. "Tour de Link 2024" aims to connect people to build a healthy community together through the transformative power of physical and mental fitness.
