The Link supports sustainable development by incorporating low carbon, energy efficient solutions into our daily operations. In order to encourage the public’s participation in environmental protection, The Link has organised a number of environmental initiatives in recent years, including the bike and bike tools lending service, Green Eco Terrace, electric car charger station and multiple recycling activities.
This year, The Link and Commercial Radio jointly held the 30-Hour Low Carbon Campaign, Hong Kong’s first 30-hour environmental marathon event, and invited the World Green Organisation as our green partner. An open recruitment was held to recruit members of the public to form teams and participate in this campaign, which aimed to promote energy conservation and a low-carbon lifestyle. The event’s opening ceremony was held on 17 August and the closing concert took place on 18 August, both in Lok Fu Plaza.
Low carbon teams completed a series of green missions during the 30-hour marathon
At the opening ceremony on 17 August, George Hongchoy, CEO of The Link, Hilda Wong, Head of Marketing of The Link, Stephen Chan, CEO of Commercial Radio, Rita Chan, General Manager of Commercial Radio, Dr. William Yu, CEO of the World Green Organisation, the Low-Carbon Champions and all the participating teams took an oath, and each of the lowcarbon teams pounded a huge drum, marking the kick-off of the 30-Hour Low Carbon Campaign. Before they embarked on the 30-hour green marathon, which comprised a series of green missions in various malls of The Link across Hong Kong, all participating teams decorated the event logo on the Green Wall in Lok Fu Plaza with plants as a testament to their commitment.
George Hongchoy, CEO of The Link, said, ‘Sustainable development is very important to our business and to society as a whole. The Link has just been included in the FTSE4 Good Index Series, confirming The Link’s compliance with internationally recognised social responsibility standards. Through this 30-hour event, we hope the public can learn more about the social benefits of a green lifestyle.’
Stephen Chan, CEO of Commercial Radio, said, ‘The 30-Hour Low Carbon Campaign is a test and also an opportunity for us to adjust our lifestyles and to adopt a green mindset. FM 88.1, FM 90.3 and Hong Kong Toolbar will cover the whole event live, and I wish all the participants the best in the coming 30 hours to overcome all the challenges and help preserve our lovely planet.’
Dr. William Yu, CEO of the World Green Organisation, said, ‘Climate change is a dire problem that we must all confront, and I hope the event teaches the participants about low carbon living and inspires more people to promote a low carbon way of life together.’
10-day Low Carbon Journey awarded to the three winning teams
The 30-Hour Low Carbon Music Concert was held today (August 18) in Lok Fu Plaza. The 30 low carbon teams, together with The Link and the Commercial Radio DJ team, crossed the finish line after completing a series of low carbon missions. Low Carbon Champion, DJ Donald, who participated in the event, said, ‘I think everyone has a responsibility to preserve the environment. This event has a great meaning and through my personal participation, I hope to help more people to understand the importance of environmental protection and encourage them to start a green lifestyle.’
The three winning teams will join a 10-day Low Carbon Journey to visit green tourist spots and experience innovative low carbon concepts in various Asian countries.
