Link Welcomes McDonald’s Hong Kong’s First “LEED Zero Carbon Restaurant”.

Engaging with its tenants and other stakeholders in its sustainability journey is a priority for Link Asset Management Limited (Link). Today (Wednesday), Link welcomes its long-term partner – McDonald’s Hong Kong’s, opening of its first US Green Building Council-certified “Zero Carbon restaurant” at Tai Wo Plaza. As Link’s first LEED Zero Carbon tenant, this branch marks a new milestone in the group’s journey in co-creating greener, more environmentally friendly, and more sustainable environments with its tenants.

Link and McDonald’s Hong Kong’s first “Zero Carbon restaurant” have also entered into a green lease, a major step forward in their partnership on sustainability. The shop’s green lease includes a commitment to share sustainability-related data, such as energy consumption and carbon footprint information; green and low-carbon fit-out and operational guidelines, ranging from prioritising the use of sustainable materials and products during fit-out; and to reduce waste and energy consumption through other green operational measures. As of early August 2023, Link has signed over 1,800 green leases with its tenant partners, an increase of over 50% since March 2023. The group aims to achieve 50% green lease adoption in Hong Kong and Mainland China by 2026/2027.

George Hongchoy, Chief Executive Officer of Link, said at the opening ceremony:

“The opening of McDonald’s Hong Kong’s first LEED Zero Carbon restaurant not only demonstrates McDonald’s commitment to sustainability, but also Link’s priority to collaborate with its partners for greater sustainability impact. Moving forward, we hope to work with McDonald’s on further sustainability initiatives and expect our tenants to be inspired by McDonald’s example and will realise more sustainability projects.”

Randy Lai, CEO of McDonald’s Hong Kong, said:

“As a leader in promoting green operations, McDonald's has always exhibited a commitment to sustainability. Having switched to wooden cutlery last year to reduce plastic use by nearly 100 million pieces per year, we are the pioneer in Hong Kong to collaborate with Link to promote sustainability with the launch of Hong Kong’s first LEED Zero Carbon restaurant at Link's Tai Wo Plaza this year. We are also delighted to have signed a green lease for this restaurant to contribute to reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions, taking the lead in the industry toward sustainability.”
