Link Asset Management Limited (Link) today (Friday) announced that Link Sustainability Lab (the Lab), Link’s sustainability education and collaboration platform, will launch a new theme entitled “Loop to Last – Unveiling the Circular Economy” on 13 July 2024 (Saturday).
Link Chairman Nicholas Allen said, "There has been an increasing push towards adopting a circular economy in recent years with the goal of creating a sustainable cycle by reintegrating used resources into the consumption and production of goods. As a daily life partner of millions of people in Hong Kong, we want to play our part in raising public awareness about the circular economy and encourage the public to lead a more sustainable lifestyle."
Recent advancements in technology have enabled economies to transform from a linear model to a circular model. In its latest theme, the Link Sustainability Lab is highlighting how this model can work in various areas, including sustainable fashion, packaging, the handling of marine litter, the recycling of e-waste, waste to energy, and nature-based solutions, to help address the ecological crisis faced by humans.
The Lab is also a space where Link aims to drive community collaboration to work towards sustainability. Link not only curated the circular economy content with consultation from the Environmental Protection Department, A Plastic Ocean Foundation, the Business Environment Council, and students from the Vocational Training Council, but has also worked with non-governmental organisations, social enterprises, and tertiary education institutions to offer more than 100 thematic workshops to members of the public free of charge in the coming months.
To learn more about the Loop to Last theme, please refer to the attached fact sheet or visit the Lab’s webpage on Link’s corporate website.
The Lab has been well received by the public since its opening on 23 April 2023. More than 240,000 people have visited the Lab as of mid-June 2024 when the second theme on social inclusion “Differently Together” ended. In addition, more than 230 workshops have been held at the Lab.
The Lab's previous two themes, "Differently Together" inclusion theme and “Take Eat Seriously” food sustainability theme, can be accessed on the Lab’s webpage.
Link Sustainability Lab is Hong Kong’s first sustainability education and collaboration platform in the local community. Link aims to support public education and foster collaboration among stakeholders, including customers, tenants, suppliers, business partners, industry peers and many other organisations in the community, making Link’s properties ideal places for people from all walks of life to learn and explore sustainability solutions.
Through the Lab, Link hopes to achieve the 3A targets: presenting an accessible platform, showing actionable pathways to sustainable development, and proving targets are achievable.
To achieve carbon neutrality, the Lab practises environmental measures, including using sustainability-certified flooring materials, reducing energy consumption with LED lighting, providing water dispensers to encourage people to bring their own bottles, and conducting regular carbon audits.
For the energy consumed during the Lab’s construction and operations (up to mid-June 2024), Link has purchased renewable energy certificates from electric utility CLP Power. Renewable energy certificates will also be obtained for the upcoming year's energy consumption.
Additionally, Link has purchased 52 tonnes CO2e of carbon credits through the HKEX Core Climate platform to offset the scope 3 emissions from capital goods, upstream waste, and upstream transportation related to the Lab’s construction. Link’s carbon accounting methodology is aligned with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
