Link Asset Management Limited (Link) believes sustainable development can only succeed when everyone in the society works together. With this concept in mind, Link not only seeks to implement ESG measures across its business operations, but is also committed to promoting and enabling sustainability initiatives. Link Sustainability Lab is the latest testimony to how Link walks its talk. The 6,800-square-feet Link Sustainability Lab, which is located at a social hub in the heart of central Kowloon, Lok Fu Place, will be open to the public free of charge from 23 April 2023.
The Opening Ceremony of Link Sustainability Lab was held today, timed to coincide with the worldwide marking of Earth Day. The Opening Ceremony was officiated by Link Chairman Nicholas Allen and Chief Operating Officer Ex. Mainland China Greg Chubb, together with Director of Environmental Protection Dr Samuel Chui, Assistant Director (Fisheries & Marine Conservation) of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department Patrick Lai, and Antony Leung, Chairman of Food Angel, a Hong Kong-based food rescue organisation.
Link Chairman Nicholas Allen said:
"As a daily life companion of many Hong Kong citizens, Link is keen to play a part in promoting public education and collaboration on sustainability. In this easily accessible Lab, Link will illustrate how the long-term vision of sustainability can be broken down into many actionable pathways and achievable smaller goals. By making sustainability accessible, actionable and achievable, Link hopes to popularise sustainability knowledge and demonstrate that sustainability can be adopted by everyone in the community as a viable lifestyle and business model."
At the opening ceremony, Dr Samuel Chui, Director of Environmental Protection, said:
"Achieving carbon neutrality before 2050 requires the participation and support of the whole community. Link is an important partner of the Government in promoting decarbonisation and sustainable development. The ‘Link Sustainability Lab’ opened today provides a new platform to promote and encourage the public to adopt and practise a low-carbon lifestyle. It will play a very positive role in promoting a low-carbon and sustainable lifestyle in the community."
Link Chief Operating Officer Ex. Mainland China Greg Chubb said:
"Link Sustainability Lab is Hong Kong's first education and collaboration platform in the local community. It is Link’s vision to integrate the best practices of sustainability into people's everyday life and business operations. With this Lab, we aim to create a platform that connects our stakeholders, including our shoppers, tenants, suppliers, business partners, industry peers, and many other organisations in our community, making our properties ideal places for people in all walks of life to learn and explore sustainability solutions."
Over 60% of the tenants in Link’s Hong Kong portfolio are engaged in food related businesses. Therefore, Link has made "Take Eat Seriously" as the Lab’s first thematic exhibition to explore the connection between the modern food system and people’s daily lives through fun and interactive experiences, in addition to its permanent exhibition to showcase Link’s sustainability journey.
There is also a Sustainable Cha Chaan Teng demonstration unit in the Lab to showcase to the public and merchants how a tea restaurant, the most common and local food and beverage outlet in Hong Kong, can transform its traditional operation into a sustainable one by making multiple small changes.
In the Lab, Food Angel is presenting its first green mart "Rice Boy Station", which serves as a single stop that provides retail, donation and food support services, as well as public education, to help alleviate food waste problems and promote eco-consumerism.
