Link Asset Management Limited (Link) has consistently fostered connections with local communities, tenants, and the public to promote sustainable green lifestyles. Over the years, Link has successfully hosted the “Food Waste Collection Competition” at Fu Tung Market, Lok Fu Market, Tai Yuen Market, and SPOT Mart, cultivating positive food waste recycling habits among tenants. This March, the competition will expand to four additional fresh markets — Tin Shing Market, Butterfly Market; Chuk Yuen Market, and Yat Tung Market under Hong Kong Market — introducing an innovative, incentive-based competition model. By gamifying the otherwise monotonous process of food waste recycling, the initiative aims to motivate tenants to actively engage in food waste sorting and recycling, reinforcing sustainable waste reduction practices in daily operations.
Gamifying the competition to inspire tenant engagement
Link has introduced a gamified approach to the competition to inspire tenants to actively participate in food waste recycling. The initiative is structured around four key assessment criteria: daily participation, self-motivation, continuity, and waste sorting. Tenants who meet the criteria will be recognised as “Green Tenants”.
The competition has garnered strong support in the past, with more than 80% of tenants participating each year. Last year, participating tenants at SPOT Mart achieved a remarkable 300% increase in food waste collection during the competition period. Even after the competition concluded, more than 80% of the collected food waste volume was sustained, demonstrating lasting positive impact.
Building on this success, the competition is expanding to Tin Shing Market, Butterfly Market, Chuk Yuen Market, and Yat Tung Market this year, aiming to introduce more tenants to the concept of waste reduction and sustainable business practices.
Tea gatherings bring tenants together to learn food waste management skills
Ahead of the competition, a tea gathering was held to enhance tenant understanding of food waste recycling. The event provided a platform for them to gain valuable insights into food waste sorting and management, ensuring they are well-equipped to participate effectively.
A representative from the Green Council was invited to highlight the significance of food waste recycling and share practical techniques for correctly distinguishing between recyclable and non-recyclable food waste. The gathering also served as a knowledge-sharing forum, allowing tenants to exchange experiences and collectively build a more sustainable business model.
All the above activities are subject to terms and conditions. The event details are subject to change without prior notice.
