Students of the advanced Roller Skating Class performed in the ceremony

Students and parents were amazed by the superior football skills by Xie Hua, China's freestyle football champion

At Lung Cheung Plaza yesterday (11 August), The Link Community Sports Academy (“Sports Academy”) held a graduation ceremony for students who excelled in last spring’s Sports Academy programme and officially launched the upcoming programme for this autumn.

Established in June 2012, the Sports Academy provides formal sports training to the general public free of charge. More than 1,500 people (including the disabled) have participated so far.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was a performance by outstanding roller skating students and members of the Hong Kong freestyle roller skating team, and Xie Hua, China’s champion freestyle footballer. Alfred Hui also shared his sports experiences with the audience.

KT Poon, Director of Government & Community Engagement at The Link Management Limited, said, “The Link Community Sports Academy has enjoyed a tremendous response in the community. In our spring training course for 2013, we provided free bowling and tai chi classes for people with disabilities, the visually and hearing impaired, as well as the mentally handicapped. In the upcoming courses, we will add more time slots and locations to choose from. Some sports will also offer advanced training classes so that students with outstanding performance can receive further training and improve their sports skills.”

Free Training in Six Sports, with Extra Classes and Locations

For the upcoming programme this autumn, the Sports Academy will provide training in six sports classes, including football, basketball, tennis, tai chi, bowling, and roller skating.  All classes will be taught by professional instructors. Classes will be available at 12 locations across the territory, and more classes will be added for tai chi and bowling, both of which were very popular during the previous session. Schools for children with special needs and people with disabilities are welcome to form groups and enrol in the upcoming tai chi and bowling classes.

In order to give talented students the opportunity to hone their skills, the Sports Academy has arranged for advanced training during the summer and autumn.

Sports Academy joins with The Link REIT’s Tenants to Serve the Community
