Art activities enable children to develop their artistic skills During the opening period of the newly rejuvenated Leung King Plaza, various art activities were held to enable children to develop their artistic skills. Over 100 children from Tuen Mun District, together with officiating guests, created a giant photo montage using 1,000 photos of children’s smiles. A graffiti wall was also set up for children to paint alongside graffiti artists, and both the giant photo montage and graffiti wall were displayed in the Plaza. In addition, a T-shirt design competition and musical party were organised to give children of different ages and interests the opportunity to participate.
Children’s art chosen for International Children Painting Competition Since December 2012, art jamming workshops for children have been held on Sundays in Leung King Plaza, resulting in the creation of a total of 98 art pieces. Of these, 11 outstanding pieces were chosen to represent Hong Kong in the first annual International Children Painting Competition in Hong Kong 2012/13, Hong Kong’s first and largest international painting event as well as Asia’s first international live painting competition. The competition aims to encourage youngsters and children to explore their art potential and creativity through painting, thereby promoting the exchange of art culture between Hong Kong and other countries. By recognising the abilities of children and by encouraging some of them to represent Hong Kong, The Link hopes to increase their confidence and positively impact their future development.
Art exhibitions have also been set up on the 2nd floor of the Plaza, where 30 outstanding pieces were on display for voting to a “My Favourite Little Painting” award, which the winner will be awarded with cash prize of HK$500. “I Love Leung King.Little Hand.Big Smile” provides multifaceted workshops “I Love Leung King.Little Hand.Big Smile” provided children in the community with a full range of art workshops. The painting workshop offered children with the opportunity to paint on canvas, recycled bags and doorplates; the paper art workshop allowed them to create renditions of New Year foods, a zoo and garden using origami skills; and the musical workshop taught them how make simple musical instruments, including drums, rattles and harmonicas.
