HONG KONG, 14 November 2010 – Young award-winning artists from Hong Kong and Europe have painted a series of artworks entitled 'Emblematic Stanley', inspired by the internationally renowned 'Qing-Ming Shang He Tu' (A City of Cathay). The paintings can be either appreciated individually or can be combined to offer a 360-degree panoramic view of the stunning landscape of Stanley. The artists were joined by 250 local young painters aged between 5 to 17, who participated in Hong Kong’s largest ever on-site painting contest, which took place in Stanley Plaza earlier this afternoon. The painting contest is part of the 'Bring Art to the Community' programme organized by The Link Management Limited ('The Link') and supported by the Hong Kong based art school, Simply Art. The programme also includes a painting exhibition showcasing approximately160 world-class award-winning paintings from Russia, Portugal, Slovenia, Ukraine, Slovakia, Hungary and Hong Kong. The programme is designed to promote an appreciation of the arts at the community level and to encourage and stimulate dialogue between young artists from different parts of the world. The paintings are currently on exhibition at Stanley Plaza until the 22nd November and will then be displayed in Tin Shui Shopping Centre at Tin Shui Wai between the 24th November to the 5th December. The Link manages both of these properties. At the kick off ceremony of the 'Bring Art to the Community' programme, the Undersecretary for Home Affairs, Ms. Florence Hui said, 'It is hoped that the 'Bring Art to the Community' programme will encourage more corporations to endorse creative and innovative events, with the goal of inspiring and enlivening local communities.' The Chairman of The Link, Mr. Nicholas Sallnow-Smith said, 'The Link believes that art is a form of communication, broadening one’s internal as well as external horizons. The Link owns and manages some 180 properties at the doorstep of 40% of Hong Kong's population, offering an outstanding platform to present art to the local community. ' The Link has designed an art book that comprises of a collection of the exhibited paintings. The art book can be obtained upon the donation of HK$50 or more to the 'Lifeline Express', which seeks to finance costly medical treatments for the visually impaired. During their stay in Hong Kong, the young European painters will visit two secondary schools in Tin Shui Wai where they will share their painting skills and experience with local students. |
