The Link Bike Dragon Dance 2013 has successfully formed a 2,000 feet-long Chinese New Year Bike Dragon. This year, the team will extend festive greetings to Shatin, Ma On Shan and Tai Po for a record-breaking event in 2014.

More than 800 bike enthusiasts cycled along new waterfront bike track in Tseung Kwan O last year to enjoy a healthy and joyful new year with their friends and family.

Participants will get a free trendy t-shirt and limited edition waist bag with gift set included. Such a trendy annual bike event will definitely attract bike enthusiasts to participate.

Chinese New Year is just around the corner! Following the success of the event during the last two years, The Link Management Limited (“The Link”) will host the 3rd Annual Bike Parade and Bike Dragon Dance in Sha Tin and Tai Po on 2 February 2014 to celebrate Chinese New Year and promote a green and healthy lifestyle to the community.

Celebrating Chinese New Year and promoting a low-carbon lifestyle with The Link’s Bike Parade

Joining the “Lucky Parade” that takes place each Chinese New Year is a traditional activity for Chinese people. Two years ago, The Link organised the first ever Chinese New Year Bike Parade to kick off the new year. To welcome the upcoming Year of the Horse, The Link will once again organise a Bike Parade, which will be held in Sha Tin and Tai Po. Participants can join one of two groups, Leisure Group or Challenge Group, depending on their ability.

Both groups will start the ride at Sha Kok Commercial Centre and will head towards Pak Shek Kok Promenade at Hong Kong Science Park by way of The Link’s Lek Yuen Plaza, Wo Che Plaza, Yu Chui Shopping Centre, Heng On Plaza, Yiu On Shopping Centre and Chung On Shopping Centre in Sha Tin. The 15-kilometre ride for Leisure Group will take 2.5 hours and is suitable for people who want to enjoy a leisurely ride with family and friends. After departing Chung On Shopping Centre, the Challenge Group will head towards Tai Po via the Tolo Harbour waterfront, and pass through The Link’s Fu Shin Shopping Centre, Fu Heng Shopping Centre, Tai Yuen Commercial Centre, Tai Wo Plaza and Kwong Fuk Commercial Centre. This 25-kilometre ride which will take 3.5 hours is suitable for avid recreational cyclists who want to enjoy an energetic day out.

During the Bike Parade, in addition to enjoying the beautiful scenery of Tolo Harbour, participants can also enjoy a brisk workout, embrace the benefits of a lower-carbon lifestyle and ride past different “lucky stations” with trendsetter Bob along the routes for a joyful New Year.

The Bike Parade benefits the Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association

The Bike Parade is suitable for cyclists of all levels, and bicycles and helmets can be borrowed from The Link. For every participant joining the bike parade, The Link will donate HK$50 to the Elite Athlete Charitable Trust established by the Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association to help elite athletes devote themselves to training and contribute to society. In addition, all participants will be rewarded with a trendy T-shirt and a limited edition waist-bag.

Bike Carnival and Performance to welcome the New Year

To welcome the Year of the Horse, The Link will organise a New Year Bike Carnival and Performance, which will feature martial arts and cheerleading performances, including an amazing light show by Light Fantasy™ that combines LEDs and unique dancing as well as the Bicycle Showband from the Netherland who plays music on bicycles, and some game booths for participants to enjoy!

Record Breaking 3rd Bike Dragon Dance

When it was first launched in 2012 in Tin Shui Wai as Hong Kong’s first bike-related Chinese New Year event, The Link’s Bike Dragon Dance aimed to promote a green lifestyle. This year’s Bike Dragon Dance at Hong Kong Science Park’s Pak Shek Kok Promenade will bring together representatives of the Hong Kong Cycling Team, professional cyclists and almost 300 bike enthusiasts at around 6:30pm to make Fire Dragon patterns with their bicycle lights. The Fire Dragon will dance along the cycling path to break the record for the “Bike Dancing Dragon”, delivering prosperous new year wishes to everyone.

Hilda Wong, Head of Marketing of The Link, said, “The Chinese New Year bike events in Tin Shui Wai and in Tseung Kwan O over the last two years were a great success. We have extended this event to Sha Tin and Tai Po this year, hoping to attract more participants. The Link is determined to make the Bike Dragon Dance an annual signature Chinese New Year event, using healthy activities to both welcome the new year and promote a low-carbon lifestyle.”
