Lok Fu’s green community engagement program Eco Terrace was announced a Gold Award winner in the Cause Related Marketing category in the 2011 Asia Pacific Shopping Centre Awards competition. CEO George Hongchoy received the Gold Award at the Award Evening at The Global Retail Real Estate Convention of Asia held in Shanghai, China. The judging panel commented that the Eco Terrace has inspired sustainable organic green living and heritage concern in the nearby Lok Fu community, demonstrated creative use of space of the Lok Fu Plaza and reinvented the shopping centre experience.
The Cause Related Marketing award promotes a single or on-going event, program or project that primarily benefits a charitable or community need, interest, or cause. The ICSC Asia Pacific Shopping Centre Awards is one of the major marketing awards of the retail related sector.
Lok Fu Plaza’s Eco Terrace Green Community Engagement Program showcased Hong Kong’s first-ever urban terrace field (3,000 square meters) with over 8,000 pots of nearly 28,000 sets of organic vegetables grown at Lok Fu Plaza’s outdoor podium and staircases, along with a series of green community activities including the community allotment field programme, heritage tours, green educational workshops, Farmers’ Market, Eco Terrace Tai Chi classes, mall discarded items up-cycling workshop etc for community’s participation. It drew close to 100,000 visitors and attracted extensive media coverage.
