Luminous Bike Dragon Dance of more than 450 ft long in Tin Shui Wai marks Hong Kong’s first-ever bicycle-themed CNY event.

Despite the rainy weather, more than a hundred bikers join the bike parade that covered different tourist spots and shopping centres of The Link in Tin Shui Wai.

The Link CNY Carnival cum Bikes Parade was held at Tin Shui Shopping Centre in Tin Shui Wai today (25 Jan). George Hongchoy, Chief Executive Officer of The Link, Andy Cheung, Chief Financial Officer and Leung Che-cheung, Chairman of Yuen Long District Council officiated at the kick-off ceremony, marking Hong Kong’s first bicycle-themed Chinese New Year celebration event, and sending new year wishes to everyone in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong’s First-ever Luminous Bike Dragon Dance

As the highlight of the event, more than a hundred bikes, decorated with special customs and lighting, led by George Hongchoy, Alan Ho, former Hong Kong Cycling Team member and Daniel Lee, former Hong Kong Triathlon Team member, participated in the Luminous Bike Dragon Dance. The 450-ft- long luminous bike dragon drew a big crowd, and added to the festive atmosphere in Tin Shui Wai.

Indoor Artistic Cycling First Shown During Chinese New Year
George Hongchoy said, “The Luminous Bike Dragon Dance is the highlight of The Link’s Chinese New Year Programme this year. We hope to make this an annual signature event for The Link.” Other performances in the carnival included artistic cycling performance, fixed gear performance, bike costume competition.

Bike Parade Brings Good Fortune to the New Year
More than a hundred bikers participated in the Bike Parade Tour in the afternoon. They visited popular tourist spots nearby and toured around The Link’s shopping centres in the district.

Hilda Wong, Head of Marketing of the Link, said, “The Link invested around 5 million in this year’s Chinese New Year programme. We expect the average footfall and sales revenue in shopping centres to increase by 20%. In 2012, The Link is going to launch the Link The Bike programme to attract bikers to come to The Link’s centres. The Link’s large network of shopping centres can act as “fuel stops” for bikers, providing one-stop service with snacks, shopping and leisure spots.”

The Link wishes the people of Hong Kong a prosperous Year of the Dragon.
