Each year, 190 local students who are the first in their families to study in universities receive scholarships from Link.
The scholarships promote upward mobility and rewards gifted students from any discipline.
We link people to a brighter future by empowering youth.
Founded in 2015, the Link University Scholarship programme is Link’s signature youth empowerment programme aimed at promoting upward mobility.
Every year, 190 local students, who are the first of three generations of their families to study at one of the local tertiary institutions funded by the University Grants Committee, are each offered a $20,000 scholarship under this programme.
The programme seeks to help local youths realise their dreams and ambitions through support to their studies. Since its inception in 2015, 940 promising young people have become Link scholars and Link has donated $18.8 million.
Nearly 1,300 applications were received in 2020/21 from local universities. Around 400 applicants were shortlisted and invited to attend a group interview based on their academic results and social services track record. For safety reasons regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, the interview was conducted in hybrid format for the first time with students online with panel of judges coming to Link’s headquarters in person. Out of the 190 awardees in 2020/21, four scholars receive the awards for the fourth year and three students are ethnic minorities.
An alumni group for Link scholars has also been formed to help broaden the horizons of scholarship recipients through volunteering and networking opportunities. The scholars are given priority when applying for Link’s summer internship programme, which offers placement opportunities matching their abilities and interests, and equips them with first-hand workplace experience and a well-rounded understanding of commercial operations.
To further nurture and continue to inspire students academically, we also host alumni events such as career exploration seminars to encourage continuous learning.
