(Hong Kong, November 25, 2011) – Stanley Plaza’s new era as an iconic, family-oriented lifestyle destination on Hong Kong Island was celebrated with a Grand Opening Cocktail Party on 25th Nov. The glittering event showcased Stanley Plaza’s stunning new 300 seat amphitheatre as a live entertainment venue with performances by Hong Kong International School Jazz Band and one of Hong Kong’s most popular entertainers, actor and singer Michael Wong, performing with his MW Blues Band. Live entertainment also included an exhilarating ‘sand painting’ performance. Stanley Plaza, a flagship property of The Link REIT, begins a new era following its facelift with six-floors of semi-outdoor, high quality shops and restaurants as well as the landmark amphitheatre staging a calendar of entertainment, festivals, events and attractions. Officiating at the ceremony were Mr. Nicholas Sallnow-Smith, Chairman of The Link Management Limited, Mr. George Hongchoy, the company’s Chief Executive Officer and Mr. Barney Cheng, renowned fashion designer and creator of Stanley Plaza’s new customer service uniforms. “Stanley Plaza enjoys a key location in a tourist area, as well as a beautiful, natural sea-front setting. Our challenge in renovating this centre was to make use of its unique strengths, and create a family-oriented lifestyle destination. The new Stanley Plaza has addressed local needs, as well as those of tourists, and done so in a way that uses the lovely natural location,” said Mr. Sallnow-Smith. New facilities introduced also include al fresco dining areas, children playground, observation deck, a whole new façade that gives the centre an eco-friendly, dynamic look. Historic landmark Murray House, with its numerous restaurants, al fresco dining and maritime museum, also forms part of the expansive seafront complex. To celebrate the grand opening, Stanley Plaza is hosting a series of entertaining public engagement activities in the coming weekends. These include “World of Food & Music” on 26-27 November, an extension event of Hong Kong Tourism Board’s “Hong Kong Wine and Dine Month”, and “Paws by the Sea” on 3-4 December, a pet festival highlighting the venue as Hong Kong’s dog-friendly shopping centre.
