The Lee Kum Kee Soy Sauce Bottle Recycling Program will be held at 10 of The Link’s shopping centres (please refer to Attachment 1) every Saturday and Sunday between 13 May and 3 June. By returning old soy sauce bottles at designated recycling booths, members of the public can redeem a free bottle of premium soy sauce (500 ml) from Lee Kum Kee. There will also be cooking demonstrations, family cooking competitions and talks about the environment at Hau Tak Shopping Centre, Sau Mau Ping Shopping Centre, Cheung Fat Plaza and Lei Yue Mun Plaza. Other highlights of the event will include exhibitions and game booths encouraging waste separation and waste recycling.

 

Hilda Wong, Head of Marketing of The Link, said, “The Link is committed to using our network of shopping centres to promote environmental protection in Hong Kong. We are delighted to join with Greeners Action and Lee Kum Kee to launch the first glass bottle recycling program in Hong Kong. Our goal is to have more people support these efforts to protect the environment.”

                                                                                                  

Angus Ho, Executive Director of Greeners Action said, “Only 1% of glass bottles are recycled in Hong Kong, which was started in overseas countries more than 10 years ago. The government should increase the number of recycling facilities to develop the habit of recycling among Hong Kong citizens.” Mr Ho added that he expected 10,000 glass bottles to be received for recycling during this campaign. All glass bottles collected will be sent to a factory in Tuen Mun to produce bricks.

 

A representative of Lee Kum Kee said, “As a famous Hong Kong brand, Lee Kum Kee is concerned about protecting the environment. Through this recycling program, we would like to promote a healthy diet among families as well as show our support for the environment.
