Computers are a common learning tool and information source for most people these days. In order to give more elderly people the chance to use computers, The Link Management Limited (“The Link”) has donated 150 recycled computers with accessories to Caritas Hong Kong. The ceremony marking the donation was held today (23 June) at the Recycling Centre of the Caritas Computer Recycling Programme.
The desktop computers donated by The Link are in good working order and are installed with basic peripherals such as monitors and keyboards. Caritas will distribute the computers in batches to the organisation’s Kwun Tong Elderly Centre, as well as to other senior citizens according to community need so that they can learn to use information technology.
Mr Damien Wu Tat-ming, Head of Information Technology of The Link, said, “The Link attaches great importance to the sustainable development of the community and helps facilitate community development through various measures. Our cooperation with Caritas in donating the recycled computers to the Caritas Kwun Tong Elderly Centre tallies with our environmental policy and also promotes the use of computers. As computers are an important information tool, this donation will enable elderly people to learn about computer applications and enjoy a more fulfilling retirement life, while helping us get closer to our community development goals.”
Mr Lau Lu Keung, Project Manager of the Caritas Computer Recycling Programme, said, “We are very grateful for the bulk donation of computers by The Link. It not only promotes recycling culture but also encourages elderly people to know about the internet and build social harmony.”
