Guests learned how to use recycled Lai See packets to form a giant Chinese character with a meaning of ‘joy’

Everyone can place their used Lai See packets in the collection boxes at 50 shopping centres of The Link

The Link has been supporting Greeners Action’s “Lai See Packet Recycling Program” for three consecutive years to encourage people to recycle and reuse their Lai See packets. Details of the program were announced at Lung Cheung Plaza today.

This is the third year that Greeners Action has held its program to enhance public awareness of waste recycling. A total of 13 corporations this year are participating in the program, and the number of Lai See packet collection points has increased from 70 to 158 across Hong Kong.

During the opening ceremony for the program, guests learned how to use recycled Lai See packets to form a giant Chinese character with a meaning of ‘joy’. Greeners Action also invited a group of children to give a catwalk performance, showcasing handicrafts made from recycled Lai See packets.

Ms Hilda Wong, Head of Marketing of The Link Management Limited, said, “We are delighted to join hands with Greener Action in such a meaningful activity for three consecutive years. We have selected 50 shopping centres across our huge portfolio as collection points to encourage more people from different regions to participate. The Link is committed to supporting the sustainable development of our environment. For example, the Lai See packet produced by The Link was printed with soy ink so that its impact on the environment would be minimized.”

Mr Ho Hon Wai, Chief Executive Officer of Greeners Action, said, "Reusing Lai See packets is a breakthrough concept for Chinese people, but this activity has enjoyed a great success in the last two years with 390,000 used packets collected. With the increase in collection points, including the airport, banks and estates, we expect that the number of packets received will reach 400,000 this year. We would like people to get into the habit of reusing and recycling Lai See packets and look forward to more companies joining this activity in the future.”

From today until 14 February, everyone can place their used Lai See packets in  the collection boxes at 50 shopping centres of The Link. Collected packets will be handled by Greeners Action for distribution to non-profit organizations for reuse in the year ahead.
