In an effort to promote sustainable development, The Link Management Limited (“The Link”) has undertaken a number of initiatives, including advocating waste reduction, adding barrier-free facilities to its shopping malls and supporting different community events to enhance quality of life. Two meaningful community events supported by The Link came to an end last Sunday, 15 December 2013. Diamond Sedan Competition 2013 Promotes An Integrated Community The Diamond Sedan Competition is organised by Diamond Cab, a private social enterprise, to enhance public awareness of wheelchair users and to promote the availability of more barrier-free facilities and services. The Diamond Sedan used by competitors is designed for wheelchair users, allowing them to take part in the thrill of competition. Sharing the same mission, The Link has continuously investing resources to provide barrier-free access facilities in the shopping centres in order to offer support to the disabled. With a concept that enables it to be both entertaining and educational, the Diamond Sedan Competition 2013 integrated physically challenged people and the community, enriching the more than 100 participants and countless spectators in attendance. For the second year in a row, The Link supported this event, which ended on 15 December 2013 at Stanley Plaza. International Coastal Cleanup Enhances Environmental Awareness The International Coastal Cleanup, coordinated in Hong Kong by the Green Council has held its opening ceremony earlier in September this year. The Link is hoping to call on Hong Kong citizens to participate in this meaningful activity as well as to raise the public awareness on the protection of ocean through this event. This year, the event attracted over 2,000 volunteers to participate. More than 70 cleanups took place in 35 seashore areas, during which more than 5,300 kg of trash was collected. The closing ceremony was held yesterday at The Link’s Lung Cheung Plaza. In addition to presenting certificates of appreciation to the volunteers and supporting organisations in recognition of their support and efforts, certificates were presented to the winners of the photo competition. International Coastal Cleanup is a global event initiated by Ocean Conservancy in 1986. Its aim is to engage citizens to remove trash and debris from beaches and waterways all around the world, identify the sources of debris and change the behavioural patterns that contribute to pollution. |
