With its commitment to enhancing barrier-free access (“BFA”) facilities across its properties under a HK$200 million programme, The Link has won the Barrier-free Facilities Caring Award organised by The People of Fortitude • International Mutual-aid Association for the Disabled. This award, which recognises companies for efforts made in improving barrier-free facilities, is a testament to The Link’s strong contribution in creating a barrier-free environment. As one of the first private corporations in Hong Kong to promote BFA facilities, The Link is bringing about more convenience to persons with disabilities, the elderly, pregnant women and families with young children by progressively investing in and rolling out its BFA programme. User groups are consulted on the facility improvement works to better understand users’ actual needs. As at 30 June 2014, The Link had completed basic BFA modifications at 94 of its properties. Facility enhancements include accessible lifts, visual fire alarms, tactile guide paths and warning strips, low platform service counters, ramps, Braille layout maps, accessible toilets and accessible parking bays. The Link is also enhancing staff’s understanding of BFA-related service concepts through training. The Link has also teamed up with Hong Kong PHAB Association to construct Hong Kong’s first Barrier-free Access Experience Centre, which will serve as a training ground for industry professionals and an education platform to promote social inclusion. |
