Link Asset Management Limited (Link), the manager of Link Real Estate Investment Trust (Link REIT, stock code: 823), today reasserted its support for tenants amid a challenging retail environment during its annual Spring Luncheon event.

Around 300 guests representing more than 100 Link’s tenants attended an event at Temple Mall in Kowloon to join the company’s senior management to celebrate Chinese New Year and welcome the Year of the Snake. Link hosted the event to show its support to tenants amid the continued challenging retail conditions in Hong Kong.

George Hongchoy, Link’s Group Chief Executive Officer, said: “We are delighted that around 300 merchants joined us at our annual Spring Luncheon today. This is the highest number we’ve ever had and reflects the strong and deep partnership between Link and our tenants. We would like to express our gratitude to every tenant who has supported and engaged with Link over the past year. The retail sector in Hong Kong continues to face challenges with negative year-on-year growth for the last ten months. While our focus on non-discretionary retail and our operational strength in asset management provide us with some resilience, we are mindful of the strain on our tenants and the need to support them during this time.”

Greg Chubb, Link’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “We are grateful for the continued support and partnership of our tenants. The retail sector in Hong Kong continues to see sales leakage to both online channels and markets outside of Hong Kong, particularly Shenzhen. Rising operating costs and labour shortages are further eroding our tenants’ margin. Link is committed to working closely with our tenants and supporting them to navigate these challenges. We hope the sector can embrace the year of the snake with renewed energy and resilience to succeed under all circumstances.”

The celebration festivities included an eye dotting ceremony and Lion Dance performance by Keung’s Dragon & Lion Dance Team before the luncheon. During the luncheon, Link also arranged a musical performance, games and lucky draw prizes for attendees.
