The shopping centre has become more spacious after renovation, coupled with the diversified trade mix provides customers with a more enhanced shopping experience.

The re-planned open-air concourse at Phase 2 of the shopping centre provides customers with a more natural and relaxed ambience.

Following a 14-month asset enhancement project supported by a HK$200 million investment from The Link Management Limited (“The Link”), Choi Wan Shopping Centre has reopened its doors. Today, a ceremony was held to celebrate the grand reopening, officiated by George Hongchoy, Chief Executive Officer of The Link, Andy Cheung, Chief Financial Officer of The Link, Wendy Tsang, Assistant Director of Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation (HKYAF), and Liu Cho Kei, Chairman of Choi Wan Estate Merchants Association.

The ceremony culminated in the officiating guests joining artists and students from schools in the community to put the finishing strokes on a giant mural, bringing fresh energy and vibrant colours to the neighbourhood.

Asset enhancement works bring convenience and more visitors
Choi Wan Shopping Centre was built more than 30 years ago to serve residents in and around Choi Wan Estate. In order to improve the shopping experience and revitalise the living environment of the Choi Wan community, The Link invested HK$200 million into the shopping centre’s asset enhancement project to introduce a more natural and relaxed ambience through upgrades to the main, supporting and recreation facilities, which include a re-planned open-air concourse at Phase 2 of the shopping centre. Additional facilities, including seven escalators, two lifts, Barrier Free Access facilities, and a new entrance connecting Phase 2 of the shopping centre with the adjoining bus stop, were built to offer convenient access, improve circulation and attract more visitors.

In addition, Choi Wan Shopping Centre’s tenant mix was fine-tuned as well to give customers greater shopping variety. Addressing the audience at the opening ceremony, George Hongchoy said, “After the asset enhancement project, Choi Wan Shopping Centre now houses almost 90 retail and food and beverage outlets. Tenants who were operating before the renovation remain, and new tenants have been introduced to provide a good assortment of retail choices that covers the daily needs of nearby residents. I believe the renovated Choi Wan Shopping Centre will provide better and more diversified retail service, enriching the lives of people in the community and improving the look and feel of the neighbourhood.”

Featured murals provide the neighbourhood a fresh touch of colour
To further enrich the lives of residents in the community, The Link has partnered with HKYAF to organise a mural painting project, inviting artists to lead students from schools in the neighbourhood to create colourful and unique murals on five of the walls at the shopping centre. The murals will incorporate iconic local features such as the banyan tree and the traditional cooked food stalls nearby, telling the daily lives of the community and showcasing the shopping centre’s surroundings in a colourful manner. During the opening ceremony, participating artists and students shared the creative ideas behind their designs and their views, and talked about the two finished murals. The Link and HKYAF will invite students from primary and secondary schools around Choi Wan Estate to complete the three remaining murals, bringing arts and creativity into the neighbourhood.
