Link Asset Management Limited (Link), the manager of Link Real Estate Investment Trust (Link REIT, Hong Kong stock code: 823), today (Thursday) announced that the Tour de LINK 2022, which was held in two rounds from 3 to 28 August 2022 at six of Link’s malls across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, has come to a successful conclusion. A total of 10,290 riders participated, together taking part in over 16,000 challenges in total, 1.5 times more than the record set during the event’s inaugural edition last year.
George Hongchoy, Chief Executive Officer, said:
“With this second edition of the Tour de LINK, we were delighted to see our flagship community event receive an overwhelming response from the community. New and returning participants from local districts came out in droves and brought their family members as well, making it a genuine cross-district community event connecting Hong Kong citizens of different generations. We are especially proud, as this resonates with our promise to build a healthy community and link people to a brighter future.”
Held from 3 to 28 August in six of Link’s shopping centres – Lok Fu Place, Kai Tin Shopping Centre, Wo Che Plaza, TKO Spot, T Town and Oi Tung Shopping Centre – this year’s Tour de LINK extended the competition categories to men's, women's, children’s and family, encouraging riders of all ages to compete to become the "Hong Kong Cycling Champ". A total of 28 prizes were distributed to the winners, including 24 “District Cycling Champ” awards in each category at each location, as well as four “Hong Kong Cycling Champ” awards to recognise the best record in each category across all six districts.
The total distance cycled at the end of the challenge was 30,820 km, more than threefold increase as compared to the total distance of 7,324 km recorded at the inaugural Tour de LINK last year. Following their success of last year, Lok Fu participants once again accumulated the most mileage among the six districts with a total of 5,659 km cycled. On behalf of the winning district’s participants, Link donated $100,000 worth of meal coupons to the elderly and residents in need in Kowloon Central District through ten welfare NGOs, including Buddhist Ching Hang Neighbourhood Elderly Centre, CareAge Health Centre (A member of Community CareAge Foundation), Choi Wan Development Network, Community Care Limited, Evangelical Free Church of China (EFCC) Choi Fook Church Neighbourhood Family Service Centre, Favor Centre, Ho Ping Neighbourhood Centre for Senior Citizens (Sik Sik Yuen), Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Chuk Yuen Canon Martin District Elderly Community Centre, Pentecostal Church of Hong Kong Choi Wan Neighbourhood Elderly Centre, and Tsz Lok Community Residents' Association, bringing people in the community love and care in the run-up to Mid-Autumn Festival.
The "Hong Kong Cycling Champ" in four categories came from T Town (men’s), Lok Fu Place (women’s) and TKO Spot (children’s and family), truly demonstrating that this first-of-its-kind in-mall cycling relay achieved its objective to provide opportunities for hidden talent from around Hong Kong to shine.
